National Literacy Trust Verse Novel Challenge

Our Competition Entry - 11/12/25

Last week we submitted five entries from Years 4, 5 and 6 for the National Literacy Trust Verse Novel Challenge. Verse Novels are full-length stories, but written as poetry (not necessarily rhyming poetry though!)  

The children read a Verse Novel, chose an extract and then recorded it.  The recordings have been submitted to a National Competition.

This week they performed their extracts to KS2 and were given their certificates.  The standard of the performances was fantastic and hopefully other children will be inspired to read a Verse Novel.  

Y4 is from Love That Dog by Sharon Creech.

Y5 is from Zombierella by Joseph Coehlo.  

The three Y6 entries are from The Final Year and The First Year both by Matt Goodfellow and Digging for Victory by Cathy Faulkner.
