From the Classroom
Term 2 (Week 4)
Science
In science so far this term, the children have been exploring the topic of Living Things and Their Habitats, with a focus on classification. They have been busy sorting and grouping themselves and a variety of objects, while learning how scientists organise living things. The children have particularly enjoyed classifying animals into groups such as fish, mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and insects, and discovering what makes each group unique. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they compare animals and share their own ideas about where they belong.
Term 2 (Week 3)
PE
Over the past three weeks, the children have enjoyed playing Tag Rugby. They’ve practiced defending their tags, throwing and catching the rugby ball, and learning the rules of the game. It’s been a fun and engaging way to build their skills and play a new sport.
Term 2 (Week 2)
DT
In Green Class, we’ve started an exciting new DT topic—Sewing! We began by researching different types of purses and wallets, then created two designs of our own. The children were especially eager to begin the making process and had a fabulous afternoon bringing their ideas to life. We can’t wait to see how their creations turn out!
Term 2- (Week 1)
English
The children have thoroughly enjoyed diving into our new class book, Oliver and the Seawigs. They’ve made fantastic predictions about the story using clues from the front cover and the blurb, showing great curiosity and imagination. As part of our reading journey, the children created detailed character profiles for Oliver and Iris, two of the main characters. They worked collaboratively to discuss key moments from the chapters we’ve read so far, exploring how the characters might be feeling at different points in the story. We’ve now begun planning and writing diary entries from Oliver’s perspective, imagining how he might explain the mystery of his missing parents and his unexpected friendship with a mermaid. It’s been a wonderfully creative and thoughtful experience for everyone!
Term 1 (Week 6)
Hello Yellow Day
This week the children have discussed Mental Health ready for 'Hello Yellow' Day. We have talked about what Mental Health is and how we can look after it. After visiting the Nurture Room to relax ourselves, the children shared some things they do at home to regulate their emotions, stay calm, focused and remain happy. We also shared how we deal with different emotions both at school and outside of school. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing wellbeing bingo and using the yellow props for some 'Hello Yellow' photos.
Term 1 (Weeks 4 & 5)
DT
The children have been busy designing and making their own board games, inspired by their favourites. We have seen creative versions of Hungry Hippos, Snap, Guess Who, and Hook a Duck. The children were very keen to bring their ideas to life and had fun sharing and playing their games afterwards.
Forest School
Despite the rain, the children had fun at forest school this week gathering leaves, acorns and twigs to make a piece of artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.
Term 1 - (Weeks 1 & 2)
Maths
The children have been working exceptionally hard in maths to develop their understanding of place value. We've used place value counters to represent and partition numbers to 10,000. Some children even shared how much they enjoyed maths after our flexible partitioning lesson!
