Today Rainbow class explored how magnets attract to things made of metal. We found that not all metal things are silver in colour, that pipe cleaners though fluffy have metal inside and that metal things can be a variety of colours.
We also answered a very interesting questions “Does a magnet work in water?”. After some interesting discussions from the “yes” and “no” camps which included “No because the water isn’t metal”, “No because the water will stop the magnet” to “yes because the magnet is strong”, “yes because the metal paperclips are metal” we tested it out and the answer is ………… yes the magnet does work in water and we were able to make the paperclips jump onto our magnet wands.
It was a very interesting and exciting afternoon.
